Updating and editing your copy in a Joomla website is easy. This is a step by step instruction on how to edit your copy in your Joomla website. If you have an earlier or even later version of Joomla, it might look just tiny bit different, but you should be able to follow these steps and successfully update your text without the help of your web designer.
To be able to do this your web designer must have created a login page for you so you can login and edit your text. This login can be just a small link somewhere and not very visible to the visitor, as it is really only for your as the web site owner or editor. If you don't have a login link, you can ask your web designer to create this for you. Your login "user name" should also have the setting of at least being able to "edit" text. But, that is something your web designer will do for you.
Click on the link for Login.
Use the user name and the password you have been given. Once you are logged in, you will be able to see an small icon on every page. Your page is called an article in Joomla. You will only be able to change and update the text / copy in your articles. The text on the side over the image of my client as seen below, is a module. This can only be edited from the back-end. This is showing you how to edit from the front-end in Joomla. If you don't get this little icon on the different pages (articles) of your website, then let your web designer know. This a setting in Joomla and can be changed to "show on page".
Click on the "edit page icon" and your browser should open a page looking similar to this.
You can now work with your text / copy and change the copy and add copy and more. The way it looks in your editing page, is not the way the article will look like once published. This is because there is something called style sheets telling the browser how your page should look like. You will have to press the "save" button to see if it looks fine. If not, go back and edit again. Joomla is very sensitive and if you don't press either "save" or "cancel" button when you are finished, and use the "back button" on the browser instead. If you use the "back button" you might have a problem. Your web designer will then have to go and "unlock" the page for you to be able to edit again. So, remember to press either "save" or "cancel". If you find your window to be too small when you edit your copy, you can drag the small lines in the "bottom right hand corner" of your "edit article" page.
If you are lucky, this is all! However, you might come across some smaller problems and that will be explained in next article. But don't let this stop you! It is a great advantage to be able to edit your copy on your website and nothing cannot be fixed if it goes wrong.
In this article I have used www.passion4life.se as an example. Good luck!!
