Search Engine Optimization - worth spending some time on the Meta codes, the Meta Title, Meta Description and the Meta Keywords
The Meta title is written "behind the scene" in the codes. They are visible at the top of the browser on the tab.
The Meta Description is the text that should explain or introduce your website, what is the website about. This explanation can very often be the text that the Search Engines will pick up as a description in a search, for example Google.
This Description is also the text that will appear if your website is linked to from a social media websites such as Facebook.
Try to use important search words, or keywords, for your business, but at the same time try to write a sentence that will represent your company website and attract clicks.
For example like this:
Vagner. co. uk specialises in providing web production and web design for small businesses, organisations, sport clubs or individual needs. www.vagner.co.uk/ - Cached - Similar
The Meta keywords that you put (or me) in your coding, should be words that is present in your text on the website page. The most important keywords should be placed first, in the beginning of the meta keywords list. They are written in lower case letters. Write the word, then a comma (,) and after the comma, a space and then next keyword.
Recommended amount of characters in the meta codes:
Meta Title Length = 63 characters
Meta Keyword tag = 256 characters
Meta Description tag = 156 characters
All values are calculated (included) such as the spaces. All words and characters beyond the limit will get cropped automatically.
Warning: DO NOT stuff your title with just keywords.
- Select the right keywords
Select the right domain name for your company with good keywords Use keywords in file names and folders, this is my job as a web designer and web builder usually. Use your keywords in your page titles Use keyword text in your navigation Create useful keyword content - repeat often Make keywords part of your META Description Use keyword text (not "click here") in your links
